Health and Safety
ISO 45001 Consultancy in the Maldives
We help Maldivian organisations put an ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system in place and get ready for certification, with technical support from an international ISO consultancy.

The Workplace Safety and Health Act (Act No. 9/2023) puts legal duties on every employer in the Maldives. ISO 45001 is the international standard for managing occupational health and safety. The standard is voluntary. The Act is not. Organisations use ISO 45001 because it gives them a tested, auditable way of showing they meet those duties.
We work with you from the first gap analysis to the point where a certification body can audit you. Technical delivery is backed by an international ISO consultancy and training firm that we work with in the Maldives.
What the Work Involves
- Gap analysis. We compare what you already do against each clause of ISO 45001:2018 and give you a written report with priorities.
- Hazard identification and risk assessment for your sites, vessels or island operations, carried out with the people who do the work.
- Documentation. Policy, objectives, legal register, procedures and records, kept as short as the standard allows.
- Training for top management, safety committees, supervisors and internal auditors.
- An internal audit and a management review, so the system has been run end to end before anyone external looks at it.
- Certification readiness. We help you choose an accredited certification body and prepare for the stage 1 and stage 2 audits.
How Long It Takes
A single-site organisation with some safety procedures already in place usually needs four to six months. Multi-island operations, or organisations starting from nothing, take longer. The gap analysis gives you a realistic timeline before you commit to anything else.
Why Work with a Local Partner
Most organisations in the Maldives that wanted ISO 45001 support have had to fly consultants in for each visit. We are based here, we can be on site at short notice, and we bring in our international partner's specialists only for the parts that need them. That keeps the cost and the travel down.
We also support other standards, including ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for the environment, ISO 22000 for food safety and ISO 37001 for anti-bribery. See ISO management systems consultancy.

Common Questions
Is ISO 45001 mandatory in the Maldives?
No. ISO 45001 is a voluntary international standard. The Workplace Safety and Health Act (Act No. 9/2023) is law, and ISO 45001 is a practical framework many employers use to organise and evidence the safety duties the Act sets out. Some clients, tenders and international partners also ask for it.
Do you issue the ISO 45001 certificate?
No. Certificates are issued by independent, accredited certification bodies after their own audit. A consultant who builds your system cannot also certify it. We prepare you for that audit and can help you choose a certification body.
We already hold OHSAS 18001. What changes?
OHSAS 18001 was withdrawn when ISO 45001 replaced it. ISO 45001 puts more weight on leadership, worker participation, the context of your organisation and planning for risks and opportunities. If you have an OHSAS 18001 system, a gap analysis will show what needs to be added.
Can you work across several islands or resorts?
Yes. We plan site visits so that one trip covers several locations, and we use remote sessions for document reviews and follow-up.
What does it cost?
It depends on the number of sites, employees and how much is already in place. After an initial conversation we send a fixed-fee proposal for the gap analysis, and a quote for the rest once we know the scope.
