HR Advisory
HR and Compliance Retainers
Senior HR, workplace safety and governance advice when you need it, for a fixed monthly fee agreed in advance.

Most organisations do not need a full-time HR director. They need someone experienced to call when a disciplinary case goes wrong, a policy needs checking before it goes out, or a board paper has to be written by Thursday.
A retainer gives you that, for a fixed monthly fee and with someone who already knows your organisation.
What a Retainer Can Include
- Advice by phone, email or in person on day-to-day HR matters
- Reviewing contracts, warning letters and termination decisions before they are issued
- Support with workplace safety duties, including following up incidents and preparing reports
- Drafting policies, procedures and board papers
- A set number of days on site each month or quarter
- A quarterly review of HR risks and priorities, with a short written note for management
When a Retainer Makes Sense
Retainers work well for employers who are growing faster than their HR function, for resorts and companies whose head office is small, and for state-owned companies that want an outside view before a sensitive decision. They also suit organisations that have just finished an HR audit and want help putting the findings into practice.
How It Works
We agree the scope and the hours with you at the start, and send a short report each month on the work done. Retainers run for twelve months, and we review the scope with you every quarter so that it matches what you are using.
Common Questions
What does a retainer cost?
It depends on the hours and services included. Tell us what you need and we will propose a monthly fee.
Can the retainer cover workplace safety as well as HR?
Yes. Many employers combine HR advice with support on the duties set by the Workplace Safety and Health Act, such as policies, incident reporting and training records.
