Occupational Health Surveillance and Medical Examinations

We arrange risk-based medical examinations and ongoing health surveillance for your workforce through qualified healthcare providers.

Occupational ill health builds up slowly, through years of exposure to noise, vibration, chemicals, biological hazards and hard working conditions. By the time symptoms appear, the damage is often done. Health surveillance looks for the early signs.

We help employers decide which examinations each group of staff needs, arrange them with qualified healthcare providers, and keep track of appointments and follow-up. Occupational health becomes a programme management can oversee, instead of a series of one-off appointments.

Assessments We Can Arrange

  • Hearing tests (audiometry) for staff exposed to noise, when they start and at regular intervals
  • Assessments for hand-arm and whole-body vibration
  • Medical fitness examinations for divers
  • Health checks for staff exposed to sewage, wastewater and other biological hazards
  • Skin, respiratory and other checks for work with chemicals, with further tests where needed
  • Lung function tests and fitness assessments for respirator use
  • Vision, colour vision, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal checks for electrical and high-voltage work
  • Aviation medical examinations, through providers authorised by the aviation authority
  • Pre-placement, periodic, fitness-for-work and return-to-work examinations
  • Checks related to heat, manual handling, work at height and safety-critical driving

Not every employee needs every test. The scope and frequency depend on the job, the exposures and the advice of the healthcare provider.

How It Works

  1. We review your operations, the roles in your workforce and the health risks they face.
  2. We agree the examinations and how often they are needed with suitable healthcare providers.
  3. We arrange appointments and tell employees what to expect.
  4. We track who has been examined, what is outstanding and what follow-up is due.
  5. Where anonymised or combined results are available, we help management review trends and improve controls at work.

Who Does What

Mentora coordinates the programme. We liaise with providers, arrange appointments, communicate with managers and staff, and keep the administrative records.

Healthcare providers carry out the examinations and tests, interpret the results, make medical recommendations, decide fitness for work and arrange referrals. Aviation medicals are handled by examiners authorised under the aviation authority's rules. We do not examine employees, diagnose conditions or make fitness-for-work decisions, and medical information is handled in confidence under applicable data protection requirements.

Common Questions

Will we see our employees' medical results?

Clinical details stay between the employee and the healthcare provider. Employers normally receive the fitness-for-work outcome and any recommended restrictions, and we can provide anonymised summaries for planning.

Which industries need this most?

Any workplace with noise, vibration, chemicals, biological hazards, diving, high-voltage work or safety-critical roles. In the Maldives that includes resorts, power and water utilities, construction, marine operations and aviation.
